Spring in the Garden Changsha  By Mao Zedong

　 Overlooking Orange Isle from the Peak of Mount Yuelu, Orange Isle is like a blue silk ribbon [ˈrɪbən] lying in the middle of the river. It is the world's longest [ˈlɒŋgɪst] inland river isle, with a length [leŋθ] of 5.5km. In the green wood Mao Zedong spent a lot of time walking on the beach.

独立寒秋，湘江北去，橘子洲头。看万山红遍，层林尽染；漫江碧透，百舸争流。鹰击长空，鱼翔浅底，万类霜天竞自由。怅寥廓，问苍茫大地，谁主沉浮？

携来百侣曾游，忆往昔峥嵘岁月稠。恰同学少年，风华正茂；书生意气，挥斥方遒。指点江山，激扬文字，粪土当年万户侯。曾记否，到中流击水，浪遏飞舟？

On a cool day in late autumn,

I stand alone at the top of Orange Isle [ail],

Where Xiang River flows slowly north.

Thousands of mountains turn red,

Layer of trees seem dyed ruby [ˈruːbi].

The river is crystal [ˈkristl] blue to the  bottom,

Lots of barges [bɑ:dʒz] are racing at speed.

Eagles soar in the vast sky bravely,

Fishes hover [ˈhɒvə(r)] into the limpid river freely，[ˈlɪmpɪd]

All living things vie [vaɪ] for freedom of life under frosty [ˈfrɒsti] sky.

Excited about the boundless universe,

A thousand thoughts and strong emotions come to me,

I wonder at the ups and downs of the vast dim earth,

I can't help asking the land,

Who is the ruler of the grey sad world?

I often came here on the trip with many schoolmates.

Having discussed the matters of state together,

How notably the marvelous days!

Having haunted me all the time.[hɔːnt]

When the students in our budding youth.

With spirits and vigours [ˈvigə] in our best years of life；

With lofty mettle and outstanding talent as a scholar [ˈskɒlə(r)].

With all our huge might 、great dream and firm will to fight.

Commenting on state affairs，

Attacking the old forces with our sharp pens, [əˈtækɪŋ]

Carrying forward the new thoughts with our fervent words，['fəːvənt]

Treating all mighty ['maiti] warlords of olden days as musk.

Do you remember?

While striking the waters in the mid–rapid river, [ˈstraɪkɪŋ]

And the waves stayed the rushing boats?

Hills and hills covered with red leaves,

漫江碧透，百舸（gě）争流。

The river is crystal [ˈkristl] blue to the  bottom, 江水清澈澄碧，

Lots of barges [bɑ:dʒz] are racing at speed.一艘艘大船乘风破浪。

鹰击长空，鱼翔浅底，万类霜天竞自由。

鹰在广阔的天空里翱翔，

Fishes hover into the limpid river freely，鱼在清澈的水里遨游，

All living things vie for freedom of life under frosty [ˈfrɒsti] sky. 万物都在秋光中争着过自由自在的生活。

怅寥廓，问苍茫大地，谁主沉浮？

面对着无边无际的宇宙，

千万种思绪涌上心头，

I wonder at the ups and downs of the vast dim earth,

I can't help asking the land,

这苍茫大地的盛衰兴废，

Who is the ruler/master of the grey sad world? 该由谁来主宰呢？

携来百侣曾游，忆往昔峥嵘岁月稠。

I often came here on the trip with many schoolmates.

我们携手结伴来到这里游玩。

峥嵘岁月，难以忘怀!

Having haunted me all the time.

至今还萦绕在我的心头。[hɔːnt]

恰同学少年，风华正茂；书生意气，挥斥方遒。（qiú）

When the students in our budding youth，同学们正值青春年少，

Where the waves were big enough to stop the speeding boats.

那浪花大得可以阻止飞奔而来的船舟。

And the waves stayed the rushing boats?

毛主席睡着后，母亲正端详着儿子，儿子醒来看到母亲戴着刚买的顶针。
